Working with Landscape Design West and Shelly Abbott has been a super experience on two fronts. She is excellent at bringing home owners into the design process, capturing and enhancing each person’s desired moods or viewsheds. We had an unrealistically long wish list of cacti and flowering desert plants. Shelly incorporated them all into the final product, yielding different but integrated panoramas for each aspect of the house. Second, she produced a yard that is vibrantly alive every month of the year. A profusion of flowers evolves through the seasons, with new little pleasures popping out all the time. As a result, we have humming birds and butterflies year ‘round, flocks of birds, even a visiting bobcat. Shelly’s landscape makes outdoor living focused around our veranda a true joy.

She is extremely giving of her time, and she worked closely with the landscaping crew who installed her plans. She was here when boulders were being placed, basins and swales were created, and visited several times to guide the masonry crew who installed the courtyard wall and hardscape patio that was put in. More than a year after completion she will still come by to see what things might need rethinking and tweaking and respond to questions we might have. You get much more than a plan on paper when you hire her. Our house in Tucson is on the side of a hill and our living room window looked out on the roof of our garage; a true eyesore.
